Most people ask me how to take diligent care of their pet’s coats and what products to use to get that competitive edge. How to achieve a gorgeous shinny healthy conditioned coat. Whether you are competing a top ranked show animal or just wanting you pampered pet to look like one.

But what comes first the chicken or the egg. Nutrition is the foundation to where to begin. You can’t build a skyscraper without a good foundation. First, your animal must be healthy and in optimum physical condition before they will be able to produce a beautiful coat. Compromised nutrition will result all the way down to the genetic level. Over-processed foods that lack enzymes and many times contains ransom oils very often, show up as infection and inflammation on the skin, around the mouth and ears and anus when an animal is in a compromised state. Improving your pet’s nutritional status helps to increase tolerance to illness and to enhance quality of life and longevity.

The skin is an animal’s largest organ and many times is not paid close enough attention to. Skin problems can be caused by poor nutrition, hormone levels changes, infections, allergies, low thyroid, zinc deficiency and disease. These problems can be difficult to diagnose, but if your pet show signs of any of these skin problems, it is highly recommended to consult a veterinary dermatologist to try and find the underlying cause and decide the best treatment for your pet. The skin can tell us if something is going on that’s not right also act as a warning system that something isn’t right inside our pets. i.e.,

  • Infections, viruses, fungal infections and blood parasites, flea bite demerits can cause skin irritations.

  • Allergies, food and environmental allergies in pets can cause the skin disorders. Allergies typically cause itchy skin and redness. Many pets can suffer from more than one allergy, and it can be difficult to determine which allergies are present.

  • Thyroid, canine hypothyroidism can affect skin and fur health. Low thyroid levels can lead to a dull coat, fur loss (alopecia), scaly skin and recurring skin infections.

  • Zinc deficiency. Zinc plays an important part of healthy skin. Some breeds are prone to zinc deficiency that cause skin problems if abnormal zinc levels are present. Such as fur loss. and redness in skin.

  • Hyperadrenocorticism (cushing’s disease) can cause fur loss, unhealthy skin, recurring skin infections from bacteria and parasites. Resulting in wounds not healing normally.

  • Many Different Diseases can cause changes in the skin

Many skin problems are easily treatable, with excellent long-term results. Then you can think about protecting and conditioning the outer coat.
